On Janurary 25th, one of Scotland’s biggest cultural holidays, Burns Day/Night celebrates the poet & lyricist Robert Burns.
As well as making original compositions, Burns also collected folk songs from across Scotland, often revising or adapting them. His poem (and song) Auld Lang Syne is often sung at Hogmanay (the last day of the year).
Burns day is usually celebrated with a Burns Supper that typically includes haggis (a traditional Scotttish dish - NO THANK YOU), Scottish whisky & reading Burns' poetry.
We're celebrating Burns day Team Kilt style! Join Jeri Smith-Ready and the Kilt and Keeley Fansite, along with participating blogs in a day long celebration of fun activities and giveaways!

ReplyDeleteI love the beauty of the countryside!!
ReplyDeleteStirling!
ReplyDeleteGreat celebration! I would say that whenever you travel to places like Scotland, really anywhere through out the UK, you are surrounded by the sense of history. The landscapes and castles have stories to tell going back 1000's of years. I always wonder who walked under the draw bridge of this castle before I? Was he a Scottish warrior? Or royalty? Or who looked out over these green rolling hills before me? I think that is when you really grasp just how young the United States is.
ReplyDeleteIt saddens me that you don't like the accent... but it's all gravy! I'm in love with it, so that's all that matters I s'pose. :) I also love the landscape, bagpipes, kilts and the fact that my dog is a fabulous Scottish breed! Go shelties!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fabulous giveaway. Those photographs are gorgeous!
The accent! XD
ReplyDeleteThe men (characters, really...i don't think I know any real-life Scotsmen, personally). They're portrayed as passionate, free-thinking, adventurous... Sigh... I wonder if there's a "Little Scotland" district in Detroit.
ReplyDeleteI love the accents, the landscapes, but my favorite Scottish thing is Glasgow. I'd love to visit one day!
ReplyDeleteIf I say the accents...does that count? :p If it doesn't I love the kilts...and the actors, too. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! :D
Awesome post! I do have a love for Irn Bru, tried it at a Scottish Festival and it was like heaven with bagpipes in the bacground!!!
